Breaking Windows password using Trinity Rescue disk

There are plenty of tutorials around that tell you how to hack Windows Password. But most of them require you to already have administrator access to the system.

I unfortunately had no experience in this field. But his problem made me research this topic. And most of the tutorials I found where fake and a lot wanted you to download files where infected. So the real problem was resetting the password without having to format the OEM OS). On XP, it would’ve been cake. But Windows 7 is the real challenge.

That is when I got introduced to a stripped down version(Live CD) of Linux which went by the name TRK(Trinity Rescue Kit). And it was amazing. It had so many tools that any geek would start drooling.

And within few minutes, I was able to hack into the Windows 7 password.

So I thought I should write a tutorial on how to perform this trick (I only tested it on Windows 7).

As you can see here, I am locked out of my System. So, let’s get started.

Step 1

Download Trinity Rescue Kit (latest 3.4)

Step 2

Burn it to CD. Get a free ISO Burner here.

Step 3

Reboot and Boot from CD

Step 4

Once prompted, choose the first option (default): Run Trinity Rescue Kit 3.4(default mode, with text menu)

Once you select this option TRK starts loading 

Step 5

Once the loading is done, you will see this screen.

Select the third option: Windows password resetting.

Step 6

And it will ask for what you want to do, Choose the 3rd option: Winpass with prompt for username.

And now enter the username you want to get access to.

Step 7

Now it will search for Windows installed on your Hard Drive. When prompted enter the number of the partition you have your target Windows on.

Step 8

Now it will give you a list of options you have to do with the password, my suggestion at this point is to reset it. But you may choose whichever you want. Just type its number and hit enter.

Step 9

And that's pretty much it, it has successfully cracked the Windows password. Just press any key and you will be at the previous menu from where you can reboot.
